I have been trying to save for a mortgage lately so makeup shopping is strictly banned for me, with the exception of the necessities such as foundation etc. yet I have had several bad days over the past few weeks and found that the only way to soothe my soul was to make some sneaky purchases! I have already filmed a haul video on this loot but if you’d rather read about it, you can continue to do so below.
So I thought I would share the makeup I have acquired lately in the hopes that it will inspire you to make a sneaky purchase and stop me from feeling so damn guilty about it! Come on, don’t leave me on my own!
The first thing I picked up was the Catrice Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer. I have been trying to use up the rake of concealers that have built up in my drawer before buying a new one but the reason I have so many rotting away in my stash is because I didn’t like them. Some were the wrong colour, some were too cakey or chalky, some just didn’t provide me with the coverage I wanted. So every morning I was digging something out and then being really disappointed when I used it so I finally caved in and picked up this Catrice offering.
You probably know my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is my ultimate favourite but I was just popping into my local chemist and this was the closest they had. I tried it a few years back and wasn’t too impressed but since repurchasing it, I have really been enjoying it. It’s creamy, blends well and covers impressively! I purchased the shade 010 Porcelain which was the lightest available and is a great match for me. However on the website there is a lighter available called 005 Light Natural that I have never seen in stores here. I would definitely like to give it a try in future though! The concealer costs around €3.95.
My next purchase was the Catrice All Matt Plus Shine Control Pressed Powder which I bought in the shade 010 Transparent. This was another necessary buy as again, the powders that have built up in my stash just weren’t doing it for me. Despite being labelled transparent, I do feel that this has a touch of coverage to it although the colour is perfect on my pale skin.
The powder is nice and I think for the €3.95 price tag, it is worth picking up if you’re in the market for a powder but it is just a little too matte for my taste. Most recently I have been using the Mac Mineralize Skin Finish which adds a glow while it mattifies so in comparison I find this looks very flat. I will definitely use it up though as it does the job I need it to.
Whilst in the chemist picking up those two boring bits, I spotted this Duo Brush On Striplash Adhesive. I have seen many US YouTubers using this in videos and liked the idea of the brush on applicator however I hadn’t spotted it in stores over here before.
My old tube of Duo Glue is ancient, stinks and is pretty gunky at this stage so I was due a repurchase anyway. In the interim, I was using those tiny glues that come with lashes and they haven’t been as bad as I expected them to be. One of the things I liked about them most was the applicator so to have a full size tube of glue with a brush on wand definitely appealed to me.
This is said to contain vitamins A, C and E which I think is a bit of a gimmick but my first impressions of this are good. It doesn’t have that filthy fishy smell of other lash glues and the brush makes life a lot easier. Did you ever try to squeeze glue out of the tube and end up blobbing out too much destroying your falsies? Well that is next to impossible with this! The first time I tried to use it I had a bit of a fail as I didn’t wait for it to get tacky like a regular glue, I applied them straight away but I’m pretty sure that was user error rather than the fault of the product. I think this is going to make my life a lot easier! Not bad for €5.99.
I recently met my friend Aundrea for a cocktail and catch up and she gifted me with several lipsticks that she had bought for herself and either didn’t like or had doubles of. She is a makeup hoarder like myself so we bond over all the pretty things! I was instantly obsessed with the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick she gifted me in the shade Underage Red. I did a swatch post on the Studded Kiss Lipsticks I owned before this one and am a huge fan of them. When I first saw this I thought it might be a standard red but it is an absolute beauty on the lips and I think this is going to be my go-to red particularly coming into the Christmas season! Studded Kiss Lipsticks cost $21 from Sephora.
The next lipstick she gave me was one of the Lime Crime Perlees. These are highly metallic matte lipsticks and look at how cute that packaging is!
She gave me the shade Beetle which she swore I could pull off even though it looked rather intimidating to me. To intensify the colour, I have been wearing it over my Velvetine in Salem which makes this look really duochromatic. It is a brown but as the light hits it, it looks almost greenish – very beetle-like! This is one I know not everybody is going to fall for but I have fallen hard! These retail for €16.15.
The final item she gave me was the Lime Crime Velvetine in the shade Rave. This is an absolutely incredible lavender shade that some how manages to be pastel yet so bright at the same time.
I haven’t worn this yet because I think it clashes with my red hair but I am hoping to change my hair colour within the next week or two so if everything goes to plan, I can see myself rocking this all the time! Velvetines retail for €17.95 on the Lime Crime website.
Here are swatches of the lipsticks. All three are incredibly pigmented and all beautiful in their own way!
As part of my makeup haul, I picked up these two shades from the new Wet n Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel Nail Color line. The shades I chose were Condensed Milk and Stay Classy. I have already written up a full review on how I got on with these but I thought I would include them as they are recent purchases. They cost €2.79 a piece.
Finally I visited the new giant NYX stand at the Boots in Dundrum and left some cash behind. These were first on my list of things to see there. Meet the NYX Prismatic Eyeshadows. It seems every blogger on the internet is talking about the shade on the right, Fireball so I had to check it out in store and while I was at it, the other shade, Punk Heart caught my eye. These are little metallic beauties and I plan to do a full post on them soon but if you can’t wait that long, I just recommend you check out this range as soon as possible! They retail for €7 each.
I hadn’t intended on picking up any of the NYX Vivid Brights but I ended up swatching every shade they had on the back of my hand in order to narrow my decision down and buy one. I some how ended up leaving with three but just look at how unusual the colours are!
From left to right I picked up Vivid Fire, Vivid Petal and Vivid Delight. Again, I think they warrant their own post but these are some of the best liquid liners I have ever tried and they are only €7.75 a pop.
Here are swatches of all the NYX eye products. The eyeshadows are so metallic in this photo but over a base, they are out of this world.
My last purchase were three of the NYX Matte Lipsticks. I already owned two of these and love the formula. You can read about my entire NYX lipstick collection and review here. The colours in this range are really unique so I ended up adding three more to my stash. These are Sierra, Maison and Butter and they are all little stunners! They cost €9.25 a pop but are worth far more, in my opinion.
So that was my haul. Let me know what has caught your eye amongst my purchases and what you want to see more in-depth reviews of!
